Nothing prepares you for this. Day 6 now and I’ve learnt a lot about the sea, the way clouds work and where the stars present themselves. From day 1 its been all about trying to get enough rest to maintain energy as we go. I feel like we have been eating like kings for the first 4 days. On day 4 as we run out of fresh meat we now start to head into the canned foods such as corned beef.

On day 3 we were spoilt with 2 fresh catches from the moana. Barracuda and a wahoo. I myself, reeled in the bad boy wahoo obviously lol.

Rest time is important but I feel if all I did was sleep and got up and did our watch that’s all I would remember. I do spend some time on the deck, just hanging out with the boys and even listening to Captain Peia sometimes when he has some knowledge to share or even some stories. Day 6 now I can comfortably say that I can find myself around the vaka easily. knowing how to reef the sails, shake the sails, jump on the oe to keep us on course and tacking and jibing. I have fun cooking with my watch coming up with some delicious meals for everyone to share. Sometimes even the odd joking around but also being serious of course. When the storms come that’s when things get exciting.

I’m looking forward to more exciting things to come. Meitaki ranuinui!
